Hello, it's ZeldaWolfy again, here to offer a sort of guide to help you with your RPing skills! and whatever else may follow and/or arise.
Something I often hear is having trouble with starters. For me, a starter is a basic understanding of your surroundings, a mental illustration of the scenery and setting. So, here's a few things to think about:
The Five Senses
(Yes, I know there's more than five)
Sight - What do you see? Is it bright, is it dark? Is it transparent, cloudy? How about buildings, or trees, animals? What are the animals doing, how are the trees swaying, what are other people/creatures doing and why?
Touch/Feel - Is it cold or warm? Is it soft, or coarse? Is it moist, dry, grainy? How is the air quality, is the gravity straining your character? How do they feel as well? Is your character troubled or confused, or maybe they know just about everything the universe has to offer.
Smell - Describe the awful, disgusting scent of boiling dung in the morning. What about your character's beloved, how do they smell? The aroma of flora nearby, or the stench of a vehicle flooring it past you?
Taste - Sure, taste and smell are practically the same thing in science, but describing is entirely different. How does one differ taste from smell? How delicious is the taste? Is it bitter-sweet, sour, too much sugar or something else?
Hearing - How about those noisy birds? Or the awful whistle of the wind, or the way your voice is so cracked and dry, like your sick. There's so many things to hear, be sure to describe them to your best ability!
Reference Sheets
(Not too hard, right?)
In reference sheets, or character bios, I believe people miss out on some cool and unique things to incorporate. Of course, the basics are great as well, those are unique to some degree. Anyways, here we go.
Name - Basic, we all know this
Age - I suppose this depends on the creature you desire to be, just remember that animals live shorter lifespans than those of humans (for the most part)
Gender - Whatever gender you desire
Sexuality - If you prefer to put this, I don't particularly do this but I can understand why someone would
Personality - Mean, brutish guy? What about a sweet, innocent lolita? Whatever you desire.
Biography - Sure, it's a lengthy progress, and maybe you haven't thought out your character's background entirely. Though a good way that I do, is through RPing. I would link RPs my character has partaken in to the bio, relating how the specific RP has effected his/her/it's growth and development. This helps people feel more in touch with their character, and may help in the long run
Relationships - Whether it be family or friends, I believe showing heritage is a good thing, though I can understand how it's pointless in some eyes
Extra Personal Things - Maybe a theme song, or how they smell? Some of these things seem ridiculous, but they help other people get a better understanding of your character and their vibe, as well as add great depth to your RP. Say you're character is a wolf, tracking a foreign entity. How do they smell? What's their presence like? Body language? It's a nice little touch, along with adding vocals and other things.
Finding Roleplays
(The most difficult of all)
So, I do find this very difficult, due to people not having dedication, or the RP running stale. Well, first off, the best way to find a roleplay is searching through Roleplays. Here, you can post your RP ideas, and hopefully you'll get a bite.
Otherwise, joining one isn't so hard. Just do the same process, reply under their post, and just say "Hey, I wanna do this" or something along the lines.
